Bloganuary Day #9 Prompt: “What do people incorrectly assume about you?”

The average population assumes many of things about "tattooed people". Media tends to fuel this: bad-asses, criminals, battling with addictions, people with "a story to tell" or a "history". It's hard to get a job or keep a job when you're inked; and all tattooed people only listen to heavy metal, or whatever other type of hardcore music you can generalize. I'm here to say, I am "tattooed" (both arms, visible unless wearing long sleeves) and I am none of the above. I am not tough. I haven't been in a single fight. I've never battled addiction, I don't have a story to tell or any history worth listening to. I'm a mini-van driving, mother of two (one on the way). I do like heavy metal, death metal, "scream-o", punk and all that good stuff. But, I also love jazz, bluegrass and various indie (among countless other genres). I'm not "tough" or "badass". I like to be comfortable, dress like a conventional mom and I wear either Crocs or Birkenstocks. Now, I do have Docs... but my husband calls me a poser. They hurt! Most tattooed people don't fit into the media encouraged conventions. They're employed, parents, loving, wimps, cat-lovers, foodies, dorks and nerds. The only thing they all have in common: they like the way tattoos make them look and feel about themselves. That's it! There's nothing more to it!

I plan on finishing up and filling in every space of both arms, and I'd love a chest piece. I want a tattoo on my throat but, maybe that's too much. I have to wait until all my children are born because my tattoos are all for them. I know more tattoos mean more assumptions, but whatever. I like the way they look and I like sharing them with admirers! I am proud the artist emblazoned me with their work (never for a small price, though). And to be honest, I don't have that many. There are so many cooler inked up people than me.
